Hello everyone, JMC has made existing conventional
PWM fans obsolete with the introduction of the PWM-Z (Zero) fans
that stop spinning below 20% duty cycle. They will provide idle
speed at 20%. The benefit of slowing the CPU and system fans as
much as possible is to provide only the minimum air required. When
the system is idle, the fan can be set to zero RPM, completely eliminating
fan noise.

PWM-Z (Zero) Fans Stop Spinning at Low Duty Cycles
JMC's
now offers a new PWM fan speed control strategy that completely
eliminates fan noise. PWM-Z (the suffix 'Z' indicates zero RPM)
fans offer Computer OEMs and motherboard manufacturers the ability
to completely shut off the fan at low duty cycles, as opposed to
idling the PWM fan at low speed, thus completely eliminating fan
noise and vibration, saving power, and extending the life of the
fan.
The idle speed of a conventional PWM fan is very low but constant
as shown in Figure 1 of the attached drawing. Figure 2 shows the
new PWM-Z duty cycle curve that completely turns off the fan at
low duty cycles. With the introduction of the PWM-Z, JMC is the
first supplier to match 2 types of PWM designs specified in the
microelectronics computer industry.
PWM-Z fans are available from JMC in the following form factors:

Maximum Power Blower Coming Soon
JMC's
engineering team is working on an extremely powerful blower that
will be an ideal solution for server applications. Production samples
will be available in mid-February. Click on the link to the left

Introducing JMC's Advanced 80x38mm Vane Axial Fan
The JMC 80x38 vane axial fan will produce about 110 CFM
at 7000 RPM in free air and has a maximum static pressure of 0.9
inches of water. The current is approximately 1.3 amps at 7000 RPM.
Production samples will be available in March 2005.

120x38mm Fixed Vane Fan Available NOW
JMC
launched final testing of the new 120x38mm fixed vane fan. Current
performance is fixed of speed 4500 RPM's producing 210 CFM at 0.85
Inch of water.
Our future plan roadmap includes a special LOW
COST version of this fixed speed fan and then adding PWM features
to this fan size family using micro-controlled firmware that includes
a soft start algorithm that prevents high start-up spike currents
without any added circuits and without any added cost. The soft
start feature is operational in 92mm fans and achieves full speed
in only 5 seconds, which is a vital requirement for high performance
air moving devices and chassis with multiple fans. To learn more

JMC's Fan Curves Incorporated into the System-Level Thermal Design
Tool MacroFlowTM Version 2.8
MacroFlow is a unique software tool that bridges
the gap between quick but limited spreadsheet analysis and detailed
but time-consuming Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis for
rapid and reliable system-level thermal design.
MacroFlow-based analysis allows scientific examination of different
design
options and accurate sizing of fans, screens, filters, and heat
sinks in simple, fast, and accurate manner. The availability of
JMC's fan characteristics enables the user to select the appropriate
model for obtaining the desired cooling performance in a subsystem
or in an entire chassis in a convenient manner. For more information,

What falls but never breaks? What breaks but
never falls?
The answer will be posted in the next newsletter.
Congratulations to our Sept/Oct winner Ralf-Peter
Fietz of Fujitsu Siemens who won a JMC polo shirt! Sept/Oct
Riddle: If you were running a race, and you passed the person in
2nd place, what place would you be in now? Answer: You would be
in 2nd. You passed the guy in second place.
