PWM Fans Now Available in a Multitude of Form Factors
JMC is pleased to announce the production availability
of a host of high frequency PWM fans that perform at low noise levels
by eliminating the power switching noise of the fan. As shown in
the chart below, these PWM fans run at a constant idle speed of
500 RPMs from 0% to 20% duty cycle and then ramp up linearly to
the fans maximum rated RPM.

Fan Laws and Conversion of Fan Performance
Following are two general fan laws used to convert
the performance of a fan when the specifications of the fan are
altered. For example, suppose you have a 120x38mm fan (1238-12HH)
that runs at 4150 RPM and produces 150 CFM at 0.53 inches of water.
Now, you need to know what the PQ curve's characteristics are if
you increase the speed of the 120x38mm fan from 4150 to 4800 RPM.
Using the following two fan law formulas below, solve for X and
determine what the new airflow and pressure will be with the speed
increase.

Solving for X, the new fan running at 4800 RPM
will produce 173 CFM at 0.70 inches of water. These proportionalities
and formulas are valid for any two fans of similar geometric sizes.

Riddle Me This - Enter to Win
Email
us your answer by replying to this message. If you are correct,
we will enter your name to win the February giveaway - a JMC polo
shirt!
If this sum is correct, what digits do A and
M represent:
MA + A = AM
The answer will be posted in the next newsletter.
Congratulations to our Nov/Dec winner Andrea Schott
of Cisco who won a JMC polo shirt! Nov/DecRiddle:
Take the letters ERGRO. Put three letters in front of it and the
same three letters behind to form a common English word? Answer:
UNDERGROUND.
