Happy New Year from JMC's Thermal Design News.
Read ahead to see what's happening in thermal design at JMC in 2003.

Effective Thermal Management using Heat Pipe Solutions
Heat pipes have an effective thermal conductivity
many thousands of times as that of copper. With a goal of reaching
a thermal resistance of 0.24°C/Watt, and below 0.20°C/Watt,
JMC's engineering team is designing advanced heat pipe cooling
solutions
for future Intel® Pentium® 4 processors running at speeds
above 3.06GHz.

Improved Acoustics - View our Demonstration
Last month we introduced you to Panther technology,
our latest fan design that performs at a high frequency pulse that
is above the audible range for human
hearing.
This technology is available in all JMC DC fan sizes, and is available
in 3 speed control options:
1. Thermistor Control
2. Voltage Variation
3. PWM to High Frequency Pulse
Take a minute to watch Abe Arredondo PE, our Engineering Manager,
demonstrate how quiet the Panther fan performs. Click on the icon
to the left for the audio and visual demo.

Engineering Lab Tools at JMC
Read ahead to learn about a few of the lab tools we utilize that
enable us
to provide comprehensive thermal analyses to our customers.
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Software: CFD software gives
our engineers the capability to analyze and optimize blade designs
for fans and blowers, perform airflow and system level analysis,
and evaluate heat sink designs to determine optimum fan and heat
sink combinations. Higher-level analyses can also be performed for
future designs involving two-phase flows and other high-end applications.
Infrared Camera: The IR camera allows JMC to take real-time, color
thermal images that can be captured to a computer. With this image
captured, JMC can locate critical hot spots that will require cooling.

Riddle Me This - Enter to Win
Email us your answer by replying to this message. If you are correct,
we will enter your name to win a JMC polo shirt!
Special Bonus: Win 25,000 AAdvantage miles on American
Airlines! Each
time you answer one of our riddles, your name will be added to the
drawing. If you answer correctly, your name will be entered twice
(terms).
A clock gains half a minute every day. Another
clock doesn't work. Which one will show the correct time more
often?
The answer will be posted in the next newsletter.
Congratulations to Bill Maltz of Electronic Cooling
Solutions, our December shirt winner! December
